Flu Prevention

Flu Prevention - Includes SARS and West Nile Virus

Dolisos Laboratories (www.dolisos.ca) have developed a series of homeopathic remedies to help your immune system through the flu season.

Influenzinum 9C is made from the updated influenza vaccine.  The composition changes each year according to the antigenic variations detected by the WHO surveillance network.

Thymuline 9C is an oligopeptide (a sequence of nine amino acids) which has been shown both pharmacologically and clinically to have immunostimulating activity.   Very important to consider if an outbreak of SARS or West Nile has been announced.

Dolicoccil 1000 is a formula composed of three natural ingredients:

Anas Barbariae-indicated in the America pharmacopoeia for the treatment  of  the flu
Copper-antibacterial and antiviral defense
Echinacea-prescribed for infection and suppurative processes

Flu Prevention Protocol:

Take 3 pellets of Influenzinum 9C (developed annually to be effective against the predicted flu strain for that year) on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month.

Take 3 pellets of Thymuline 9C  (to stimulate thymus activity) on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month.

Continue throughout the flu season.

Should symptoms develop Dolicoccil is taken twice a day for two days, at first onset of symptoms. If there has been an outbreak of SARS or West Nile in your area I would recommend taking Doliccocil right away and certainly not wait for symptoms.

Dolisos also has a number of single and complex remedies that can be used for any flu or cold symptoms that do occur.  As each persons response to a virus or bacteria may be different the remedy is selected based on your individual symptoms.

Beating the Flu Season:

Probably the most important thing to do to beat the flu is to maintain a healthy immune system and this is done by reducing stress.  During a stress response the adrenals release compounds that cause the thymus to shrink and reduce its activity. Vitamin A and C, B-carotene, Zinc and other antioxidants can be very helpful in supporting thymus function and reducing "adrenal stress".

Also think about other "lifestyle" factors such as smoking; alcohol consumption; drug use; glucose, triglycerides and cholesterol levels; excessive sugar consumption; chemical and allergen exposure; and a host of other factors that could weaken our immune function.

Diet - eat a healthy diet, high in unrefined, complex carbohydrates, moderate in amounts of protein and low in fat (making sure most of these  fats are polyunsaturated).

Herbs - many herbs can help the body fight against viruses, bacteria and fungi.
Probably the three most popular herbs are echinacea, goldenseal and licorice.  We often add myrrh to our herbal tincture mix if there is frank infection such as in cases of tonsillitis or strep throat. Myrrh is very antiseptic in its action. These can be taken as dried root (made into a tea), freeze-dried root (capsules), tinctures, fluid extracts and solid extracts.

We need to remember that many of the old folk remedies used by our mother's and grandmother's  are as effective or more effective than "modern medicines".
